Vision, Mission & R&D Strategies
To be an outstanding research and development (R&D) institution of Nobel Laureate calibre and the leading driver of the palm oil industry in diversifying activities, enhancing value-add, and advancing sustainable development and global competitiveness.
To enhance the well-being of the Malaysian palm oil industry through excellence in research, development and services.
The vision reflects the Board's ambition to be a world-class research institution and to diversify the industry's activities into bioenergy, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, raising the value of finished products while keeping development sustainable.
The mission commits the Board to impact every player in the industry, from smallholders to large operators. Excellent services here mean technical support, training, market information and efficient licensing.
R&D Strategies
Three strategies direct the Board’s research and development agenda.
High Income
Focus. Undertake research and development of technology or products that generate high economic returns to the industry.
Examples. More efficient palm oil extraction technology, plantation automation systems, and high-value downstream processing.
Sustainable Development
Focus. Ensure all R&D activities take into account the sustainability of the environment and local communities.
Examples. Research on environmentally friendly mill waste management, biocompost technology development, and support programmes for smallholders.
Value Addition
Focus. Develop new palm-based products with high commercial value.
Examples. Innovation in health products, cosmetics, biofuels, palm-based food supplements, and bioplastics.
