Regulatory context
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
The EUDR requires that palm oil placed on the EU market be deforestation-free (no deforestation after 31 December 2020), produced in accordance with the relevant legislation of the country of production, and covered by a due diligence statement that includes per-plot geolocation. Non-compliance risks restrictions on access to the EU market. SIMS is the national foundation for meeting these requirements.
